A study published in Interdisciplinary International Journal found yoga, breathing and chanting significantly reduced obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) symptoms.
Researchers at Dev Sanskriti University in India, assigned 60 patients with the anxiety disorder OCD to yoga practice. All of the participants were not on drug therapy.
The patients participated in a 60-minute yoga practice for 45 sessions. The yoga program included 20 minutes of yoga, 10 minutes of yoga breathing, 10 minutes of mantra chanting and herbal medicines.
"The holistic approach produced significant reduction in the level of OCD," the researchers write. "The combination of these specific techniques has a collective effect on the patients and causes significant reduction in the symptoms of OCD."
